I hope that you have been able to download the free ebook from Amazon Kindle titled Building Your Book for Kindle.  It is really the most helpful guide that I have found, even though it seems a bit overwhelming at first look. When I first downloaded it, I thought it seemed almost too much to deal with.  But, I was determined to get my book published!  So, I looked at the table of contents and saw that the book really proceeded to give information in a step-by-step way,  Then I began to do what it recommended, page by page. I have not used MSWORD 2010 at all;  2007 is just fine.  I have read that other authors use the other word processors mentioned above and use 2010, but I see no need to do so.

Before beginning, you need to make sure that you have MSWORD 2003 or 2007. The book says that MSWORD 2010 is what they used, but I wrote the text of my first book that I published on Kindle in MSWORD 2003, and later changed to the 2007 version because  the 2007 version has some neat things that are not available on 2003.  I did not try the other word processors that the book suggested (OpenOffice or LibreOffice) because I had been using MSWORD versions for some time and did not want to go through the process of learning new procedures.

If you want to get 2007, some good used ones are available on Amazon and at other place on the internet at prices lower than new version prices. I have in the past bought used software and have had no problems. It is helpful to check the star ratings of sellers offering used versions before buying.  I tend to buy from those having the best ratings, and have not been disappointed.

Next time, I'll give some hints about putting in your "front matter," things like the title page, copyright page, dedication, etc. It is really easy, and I've found some ways to understand better just what Building Your Book says.
